A New Pavilion for Mayfield Cricket Club
A new chapter in the 260 year long history of cricket in Mayfield is about to be written. After the recent destruction of the Club’s pavilion by an arsonist in September 2010, the Club has committed itself to build a replacement as soon as practically possible.
The old pavilion, originally thatched, had stood on the ground since 1899, and was lovingly modernised by members some 20 years ago. First thoughts of building a new pavilion emerged in the mid nineties, but the dramatic and distressing events of the last few weeks has forced the hand of the club.
Plans have been drawn up for a pavilion fitting for the 21st century. This bold and exciting development, and will help build on the Club’s success this last year. It comes at the same time as plans to field 3 league sides on Saturdays alongside the Sunday side next season have been announced and as the Club seeks to develop further the Youth section of the Club.
Planning permission has been granted, builders identified and initial financial support, including the receipt of full insurance proceeds, has been received such that work can now start, leaving future fund raising to cover the fit out costs and provide replacement machinery.
Now that all the preliminary work has been carried out, the serious business of raising all the money needed for the building, and machinery is to commence in earnest.
Our new Chairman, Doug Shankland, and the Committee have been laying out plans in various ways to raise funds to help meet the shortfall of around £100,000 considered necessary to complete the project.
