A Match Review To Remember from 2011
Mayfield 2nd XI v Sidley III
Saturday 25th June 2011 - 1.30 start
Sidley won the toss and elected to field on a dampish wicket
that looked very much like a batting dream but ended up bowlers paradise. Ali
Gilkes set about the Sidley bowlers and was progressing smoothly despite wickets
falling with alarming regularity at the other end. His score of 55 was the only
innings of note for Mayfield and with 5 batsmen registering ducks Mayfield
seemed unlikely to post a competitive total. Curcher dipped in with a useful 12
runs at the death that in the end were quite crucial after a low score that
looked inadequate in win the game.
As it was, Mayfield were dismissed for a paltry 101 in just
20.3 overs.
With only 20.3 over being bowled Mayfield came straight back
out to bowl a further 29 overs before tea.
Jamie Anderson took the first wicket with the score on 20-1 which brought in Curcher to the attack, replacing
Russell at the other end, the Sidley batters found progress altogether more
difficult.
Curcher cleaned up 8 of the next 9 batsmen in a very fine display of controlled swing
bowling, demolished, simply destroyed, the Sidley batting order in
taking a remarkable 8 wickets for just 8 runs in 9.2 overs. With just 101 runs
on the board to defend, Sidley subsided from 20-1 to 89 all out.
The Curcher bowling spell and his 12 runs is probably worthy of one of the finest spells in Mayfield history and certainly won this match single handily!!
Mayfield II: 101 all out in
20.3 overs (Home)
Sidley IV: 89 all out in 31.2 overs
Mayfield won by 12 runs
